Job Description

The Business Analytics team is responsible for global management reporting and forecasting at Allianz Direct, providing decision-makers across the organization with trusted data, meaningful insights and the information needed to steer the business.
We are looking for a (Senior) Data Analyst who combines strong analytical thinking with hands-on technical expertise and a passion for turning data into business value. You enjoy working at the intersection of business and technology, building scalable data foundations while helping stakeholders answer critical business questions.
In this role, you will design and maintain the governed data models that power our reporting, dashboards and forecasting processes. Working with SQL, Python, dbt, Databricks, Power BI and AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, you will help shape and evolve our modern analytics ecosystem.
A key part of your role will be partnering with our Italian business teams. As we integrate Italy into our central reporting landscape and enterprise data model, you will act as the primary point of contact, translating business requirements into scalable data products, aligning KPI definitions and ensuring a smooth transition to our centralized analytics setup.
You will join a team that is actively modernizing its analytics platform through a central enterprise data model, a shared semantic layer, AI-assisted development and a strategic move towards Databricks-native analytics and AI-powered reporting. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future analytics landscape rather than simply consume it.
If you are passionate about data, enjoy solving complex business problems and want to make a measurable impact in a fast-growing digital insurer, we'd love to hear from you. Join us and help shape the future of insurance through data and AI.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain scalable data models using SQL, Python, dbt and Databricks across staging, core and enterprise data layers, following dimensional modelling best practices.
  • Drive the integration of Italy into our central data platform and reporting landscape by translating local business requirements into scalable data products and KPI definitions.
  • Act as the primary analytics partner for our Italian business teams, facilitating workshops, gathering requirements and translating business questions into data-driven solutions.
  • Build and maintain executive dashboards, reports and self-service analytics solutions using Power BI, while supporting our transition towards Databricks AI/BI, Genie and other modern analytics capabilities.
  • Define, govern and maintain business KPIs and measures within a centralized semantic layer, ensuring consistent reporting across countries and functions.
  • Perform analytical deep-dives, root-cause analyses and business performance assessments to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency and trustworthiness through automated validation, reconciliation and monitoring processes.
  • Support the modernization of our analytics landscape by migrating reports, semantic models and business logic to our target architecture.
  • Enable forecasting and advanced analytics use cases by providing trusted datasets and partnering on the evolution towards machine learning-driven forecasting models.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality and delivery speed.
  • Maintain high engineering standards through documentation, Git-based development, peer reviews and adherence to analytics engineering best practices.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in Analytics Engineering, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or Data Engineering
  • Expert-level SQL skills and extensive experience designing scalable, high-quality data models for analytics, reporting, and forecasting.
  • Strong hands-on experience with dbt, Databricks, Data Warehousing, Delta Lake, and modern data platform architectures.
  • Proven expertise in dimensional modelling, including Star Schema, Semantic Models, Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD), and metric design.
  • Advanced Power BI development skills, including DAX, semantic layer design, dashboard development, and self-service analytics enablement.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to turn complex data into clear business recommendations and strategic insights.
  • Excellent understanding of data quality, reconciliation, governance, and performance optimization.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and business audiences.
  • Fluent Italian and English; German is a plus.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

  • Python for advanced analytics, forecasting, machine learning, and statistical modelling.
  • Experience in insurance, banking, financial services, or other highly data-driven industries.
  • Experience working in international and cross-functional environments.
  • Experience with Git, code reviews, and software engineering best practices.
  • Exposure to cloud-based data platforms and AI-enabled analytics solutions.
