PhD Position Chemistry Education Research in Nürnberg, Deutschland

Your Tasks

• Contributing to a collaborative DFG-funded research project investigating how authentic, context-based learning environments can foster interest in chemistry education
  
• Planning, organising and conducting empirical studies in student laboratories and regular chemistry classrooms
  
• Analysing quantitative and qualitative data using advanced statistical methods and integrating the findings within a mixed-methods research design
  
• Contributing to the design and evaluation of context-based teaching and learning materials and supporting their transfer into school practice
  
• Publishing and presenting research findings at national and international level, as well as contributing to teacher professional development
  
• Supervising student assistants and co-supervising undergraduate theses
  
• Completing an independent doctoral dissertation within the project's research area

Your Profile

• First State Examination for a teaching qualification or a master's degree in chemistry, or an equivalent master's degree in chemistry qualifying you to teach at secondary school level
  
• An interest in chemistry education research and in pursuing a doctorate within the project's research area
  
• Ideally, knowledge of empirical research methods and quantitative statistics (R and/or SPSS); experience with qualitative methods is also welcome
  
• Ideally, teaching or school-based experience, as well as experience with out-of-school learning environments
  
• An independent and structured approach to work, strong organisational skills and enthusiasm for collaboration within a multi-site research team
  
• Excellent German and good English language skills
