At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, 80,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Could you be the full-time ATC Application Design Engineer (f/m/d) in Hamburg we’re looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your software and system engineering expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside dynamic, collaborative, and solution-oriented teammates.

You'll play a key role in customizing and delivering Automatic Train Control (ATC) applications for our projects. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with cross-functional teams across the business (e.g., system engineering, software, validation, and project teams), translate system requirements into application data, and contribute to delivering high-quality, safe signalling solutions.

You’ll specifically take care of defining and validating ATC application data and parameters, but also support interface design and technical coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders.

We’ll look for you to:

• Define, produce, and validate ATC application data and parameters for project-specific solutions
• Translate system and design requirements into application data models, especially for urban signalling projects
• Configure and adapt generic ATC software to meet project needs
• Produce engineering documentation and drawings, including system interfaces and interconnections
• Support supplier activities and provide technical assistance when required
• Contribute to safety analyses by providing accurate configuration data
• Ensure quality, consistency, and traceability of application data deliverables
• Support defect analysis, root cause identification, and corrective actions

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

• Degree in engineering (electronics, embedded systems, software engineering, or equivalent)
• Experience with complex real-time or safety-critical systems (e.g., signalling, avionics, defence)
• Understanding of software engineering principles, tools, and configuration processes
• Knowledge or interest in ATC or railway signalling systems
• Ability to analyze defects and propose effective solutions
• Strong communication skills in English; German is a plus
• Familiarity with system interfaces (e.g., rolling stock, interlocking) is an advantage
• A structured, solution-oriented mindset with attention to detail

Things you’ll enjoy

Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

• Experience a dynamic and meaningful work environment with a permanent role at a global leader in rail transportation
• Contribute to innovative and impactful projects shaping the future of sustainable transport
• Work with international, cross-functional teams and supportive colleagues
• Take ownership of your career and explore development opportunities across functions, projects, and countries
• Benefit from our strong investment in your growth through award-winning learning at Alstom University
• Work in modern offices in Hamburg or Berlin with excellent public transport connections
• Optimise your work-life balance with flexible working hours and hybrid working models
• Receive a competitive remuneration package including 30 days of vacation, company pension, and subsidised “Deutschlandticket”
• Thrive in an inclusive workplace with mentoring programmes, diversity & inclusion initiatives, and engaging employee activities

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
